The Odorkor Official Town Assembly, of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana who pride themselves with the mantra ‘the One Great Family’, went agog when it celebrated the cultural day on Sunday, December 22, 2019. Congregants displayed Ghanaian traditional cultures to make a statement that indigenous adornments and folklore could also be used to worship God the Christian way.
The congregants, clad in diverse Ghanaian traditional apparels, sang and danced to the songs of some ethnic groupings in Ghana whilst they took turns in praising the name of God.
It was a day awashed with the display of crafted bakatari and Kente cloth with ‘ahenema’ slippers, happiness, exchanging pleasantries, beads of different sizes worn around the neck and wrists to showcase the rich cultures of ethnic groups across the country. The programme was geared at making our various traditional wears prominent in our daily lives and extended to the church.
The Traditional Sunday Service was held as part of their Christmas activities.
The church's choir, Vessels Unto Honour also
cemented the grounds with mind blowing indigenous songs to match up with the motive of the program.
Rev. Anthony Ampah-Williams, the head pastor of the church in addressing the congregants, congratulated members for their massive participation and expressed the hope that this initiative will help to instill such sense of cooperation in them for the vineyard of God. The sermon of the day was delivered by Prophet Samuel Frimpong, the lead pastor of Higher Life Assemblies Of God.
Lots of pictures were taken by everyone to create memories of this beautiful day. The atmosphere was full of joy and celebration.
After the Service, everyone gorged on the yummy local snacks and drinks arranged in calabash and took back memories for a lifetime, as we wait for the second coming of the Lord.
In all, it was a great success and it definitely strengthened the bonds among the Church Members and created respect for ethnic and racial diversity in Ghana.
We are all one as far as we have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, irrespective of our different cultural inclinations.
There would be more of such interesting programs during this festive season, so we urge all members to prepare feverishly.
